What is a school magazine?

Typography is the study of fonts and texts involving the style of fonts and spacing between letters. There are two different types called Sans Serif and Serif, they are different because serif originated when ink and a brush was used to write and a blob of ink was often left when the brush was leaving the page causing flare. Today a Serif implies craftsmanship.

Conventions of a magazine.

When looking at specific genres of text there are always conventions that come with each type that don't come with other type of texts. The definition of conventions is 'a way in which something is usually done’. In a magazine there are many things that are expected:

Front cover:

·        There is typically always a masthead to inform the customer of the name which is usually bold so it is clear and easy to see. They are also located mainly central towards the top of the page. They also include a barcode which is used to keep track of stock sold as well as a date and pricing so the customer is aware of how update the magazine is and how much it costs to buy. There is often a dominant story which often is the main cover and is used to attract customers.

Contents page:

·        The contents page consists traditionally of the guide to different pages in the rest of the magazine. You can find examples in most magazines where there is a title of the page with a page number so it can easily be found. Also there is images to make it more attractive to the customer.
